Living in Middleton, Idaho
Middleton is a fast-growing small town in Canyon County, about 20 miles northwest of Boise. Strong schools, Lake Lowell at the doorstep, a revitalizing Main Street, and the small-town feel of a place where neighbors know each other: here is what life in Middleton is really like.
The Town
Small-town Idaho, growing fast
Middleton sits in Canyon County on the valley's northern edge, about 20 miles northwest of Boise, roughly 25 minutes by car. The city has grown from about 7,000 residents in 2010 to over 13,000 today, a 37.31% jump since 2020. That growth rate, around 4.33% annually, makes it one of Idaho's fastest-expanding cities, and its median age of 37.5 reflects a community of families and professionals.
The agricultural land around town still frames the daily view, with farm fields, orchards, and the Owyhee Mountains on the horizon. That mix of countryside and new construction, quiet streets and building cranes, is exactly what Middleton's growth feels like right now.

Community
Main Street with real momentum
Middleton might be one of Idaho's fastest-growing cities, but on any given weekend it still feels like a small town, the kind where you run into your neighbor at the coffee shop. Main Street is quietly filling in with new shops and restaurants, and the downtown revitalization is one of the most exciting things happening here right now.
The community event calendar is packed year-round, from the Harvest Festival at Foote Park to the Christmas Parade, Downtown Sip and Stroll wine walks, and the Light the Green Holiday Makers Market. On Saturday, November 7, the 5th annual Author Palooza fills the Middleton Community Center, 113 W Main St, from 11 am to 3 pm, with 60-plus local authors, bookish vendors, food trucks, and kids' crafts. It's free and right in downtown Middleton.

Parks & Outdoors
Lake Lowell is your 15-minute backyard
Just 15 minutes south of downtown, Lake Lowell offers easy walking paths, birdwatching at the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge, and some of the best sunset views in Canyon County. The lake is known for bass, crappie, and perch fishing, and with motorized boating closed for the season it turns quiet and belongs to the fall waterfowl migration.
In town, the city maintains several parks: Lake Harlow Park, Thurston Park, and Picadilly Park, with Lake Eleanor Park a favorite for playground equipment, picnic areas, and walking paths.
For bigger adventures, the Boise River is nearby for kayaking and fly fishing, the Payette River's world-class whitewater is about 45 minutes west, and Bogus Basin ski area is less than an hour away for winter sports.
